Anyone who visits interior designer Sophie Garland quickly realises they're in the home of someone who loves colour. Vibrant yellow, soft red, plenty of green, bold patterns, and fresh flowers fill every room. In her classic London family home, creative design and everyday family life go hand in hand with effortless ease. Vibrant, joyful, and full of life!
Some Homes Just Feel Different
This is the first home Sophie and her husband, Freddie, have created together for their family. It was especially important for them to find a place where they and their two children could grow together. The fact that two creative minds live under one roof is evident in every corner of the house.
Fresh flowers are a must!
From Not a Flower Person to Fresh Flowers in Every Room. Flowers used to be an afterthought for Sophie. Today, she can hardly imagine her home without them – and she has Freddie to thank for that. A florist and the founder of Freddie's Flowers, he regularly brings fresh blooms home. They not only add beautiful pops of colour but also bring every room to life.
Freddie in his element!
Pattern & Colour? Always!
Neutral? Sophie gave it a try – but it didn't last long. Sooner or later, bold colours and striking patterns always find their way back into her home. It's hardly surprising: her mother, also an interior designer, showed her just how much colour can change the mood of a space.
One Family, One Space
The open-plan ground floor is the heart of the home. It’s where cooking, playing, working, and everyday life all come together. The rooms flow seamlessly into one another, with the kitchen as the true star of the space. It’s also made for everyday family life: huge Lego collections are tucked away in the kitchen island, while the children race their toy cars around the dining table.
'My home is definitely a place where I can walk through the door and immediately feel relaxed, happy, and completely at ease.'
Colour Story: Warm Red
The soft red tone in the living area was a very deliberate choice. It was intended to make the room feel warm and welcoming – and that’s exactly what it does. At the end of the day, this is where the whole family comes back together. It’s only right that the space should feel a bit like a hug.
A deep sense of comfort
The rooms radiate an effortless, layered sense of comfort. This is achieved through soft textures and expressive patterns. Personal touches bring energy to the home and give each room a sense of visual depth.
Colour Story: Natural Green
Green runs like a common thread – or rather, a green thread – throughout the entire home. It appears on walls, cabinets, textiles, and of course in the form of plants. For Sophie, the colour brings nature indoors and represents growth. For Freddie, green is naturally part of everyday life through his work.
